There are a plethora of RAW photo camera formats, and we want to provide you some feedback on which RAW file formats work with Silent Sifter. We tested Silent Sifter with a sample set of RAW file formats , and here are the results.
If your file format is not listed, you can comment on this post or in the forums, and we’ll test the system with your format, although we may need your help in providing the format if we can’t find one readily available on the web.
RAW File Format Testing and Results:
Camera Type | Supported Formats (OSX Lion) | Unsupported Formats (OSX Lion) |
Canon | CR2, CRW | |
Nikon | NRW, NEF | |
Sony | ARW, SR2 | |
Epson | ERF | |
Fuji | RAF | |
Hasselblad | 3FR | PPM |
Kodak | DCR | KDC |
Leica | DNG, RAW | |
Minolta | MRW | |
Olympus | ORF | |
Panasonic | RAW, RW2 | |
Pentax | DNG, PEF, RAW | |
Leaf | MOS | |
Ricoh | DNG | |
Mamiya | MEF | |
Polaroid | X3F | |
Sigma | X3F |
One way for you to check if it will be supported, is to open Finder, select the RAW file, and control-click / right-click the file, then select get-info. If you see a bunch of data in the ‘More Info’ section, that means OSX knows how to read the file, which means Silent Sifter can too. There are some files where you won’t see ‘More Info’, in which case the file type may or may not work with Silent Sifter.
Also note, this test was done using OSX Lion, and because we use the underlying OSX photo framework, Silent Sifter may support more formats on Mountain Lion.
If you have any questions, please ask in the comments or in the forums, thanks!
